About this item

The architectual element repeated in the design of this tie is the wrought iron balustrade from New York's Federal Hall where Alexander Hamilton served as the first Treasury Secretary. When New York was the nation's capitol, Federal Hall housed Congress and other government offices. Behind the center section of the balcony railing, George Washington was inaugurated as the first president of the United States. Federal Hall was also the frst home of the New-York Historical Society from 1804 to 1809.
