About this item

This gorgeous rock and roll pendant was created in connection with the exhibition The Grateful Dead: Now Playing at the New-York Historical Society, currently at the museum. The design is inspired by one of the best known Grateful Dead art icons, a red, white, and blue skull with a lightning bolt through it. The logo was designed by Owsley Stanley and artist Bob Thomas, and was originally used to mark the band's equipment. The lightning bolt skull can be found on the cover of the 1974 album Steal Your Face, and the image is known by that name. The title of the album derives from the lyrics of "He's Gone" (Like I told ya, what I said, Steal Your Face right off your head), a song that fittingly does not appear on the album.

Created by New York jewelry designer Cynthia Gale, the lightening bolt pendant is crafted in hand-cut mother of pearl in a sterling silver setting. Pendant measures 1 _ in diameter. Sterling silver chain length is 18.
