This beautiful print shows the preparatory watercolor model John James Audubon (1785-1851) made between 1836 and 1837, with the assistance of both Maria Martin and his son John Woodhouse Audubon, of six species of Warbler and Bluebird: Townsend's Warbler (Dendroica townsendi), Audubon's Warbler (Dendroica coronata auduboni), Mountain Bluebird (Sialia currucoides), Western Bluebird (Sialia mexicana), Black-throated Gray Warbler (Dendroica nigrescens), and the Hermit Warbler (Dendroica occidentalis) for the publication of the double elephant folio edition of The Birds of America (1827-38) engraved by Robert Havell Jr. (1793-1878). It corresponds to Havell plate 393.
