History repeats. The image on our commemorative mouse pad reproduces the art of The 1913 International Exhibition of Modern Art (or Armory Show) original. A flag from the American Revolution inspired the 1913 Armory Show emblem, an uprooted pine tree. It was chosen as a sign of the new, independent, even radical, spirit that the organizers wanted the show to convey. "The New Spirit," the motto of the Armory Show, remains a shorthand for the vibrant currents of change afoot in the visual arts, societal norms, cultural values and political beliefs of the early 20th Century.
